Patriots 2019 Offseason Needs

With the Patriots recording their sixth Super Bowl title, the offseason frenzy officially begins. The Patriots who have plenty of cap space have a league _high 12 draft picks awarded to them. Overall, they have six picks in the first three rounds. One first, two seconds and three_ thirds. In this post, we will discuss three areas the team needs to focus on this offseason.

Patriots 2019 Offseason Needs

Draft A Quarterback;  With Tom Brady getting better with age the organization has a four_ year window to develop Brady’s successor. The team’s best bet is to draft a quarterback and have him under team control for five years. Signing a free agent quarterback would be risky as long as Brady stays healthy.

Three quarterbacks who may be available at pick 31  are Brett Rypien of Boise State and Shea Patterson of Michigan. Rypien threw for 10,000 yards passing in four years at Boise State.  Shea Patterson of Michigan may also be available at 31. Patterson impressed scouts as he  65 % of his passes in four years at Michigan. We all know the last quarterback the Patriots took from Michigan in 1999.  Other possibilities may be Daniel Jones of Duke or Jake Browning of Washington.  Jones ‘s stock may drop due to a knee injury he suffered in the second game last season.

Draft A Safety; Just after the Super Bowl veteran Devin McCourty considered retirement. In the past, the Patriots have drafted great safeties such as Patrick Chung and Brandon Meriweather. Some names to keep an eye on are Deionte Thompson of Alabama, Chauncey GardenJohnson of Florida, and Nasir Adderley of Delaware. Out of the three Adderley has the best skill set. Adderley is excellent in zone coverage and is a projected 1st round pick.

Edge Rusher; The Patriots defense ranked 15th in the NFL last year. They  stopped the Rams run game in the Super Bowl. Adding another edge rusher can never hurt. The current linebacking group of Donta Hightower, Kyle Van Noy, Trey Flowers, Johnathan Simon, and Elandon Roberts could use an extra body. Some names to keep an eye on are Josh Allen of Kentucky, Nick Bosa of Ohio State, Jachai Polite of Florida. Depending on who is available look for the Patriots to select Josh Allen of Kentucky. Allen finished his career with 224 tackles,15 forced fumbles, and 31 career sacks.

Free Agency; With free agency starting March 1st the Patriots will be searching for a tight end and Receiver help.  Some players who could be available for the right price are Jesse James of the Steelers, Antonio Brown of the Steelers and Antonio Gates of the Chargers. Benjamin Watson of New Orleans is also a possibility. James can play both receiver and tight end.  Depending on Rob Gronkowski’s decision on retirement look for Belichick to stockpile in this department.

Three Strategies For The Patriots To Achieve Super Bowl Title Number Six

This Sunday the Patriots will be in pursuit of their sixth Super Bowl title. Only one other team the, Pittsburgh Steelers, have six Super Bowl wins. Last year, the decision not to play Malcolm Butler affected their performance. In this post, we will examine three areas that will bring the Lombardi trophy back to Foxborough.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Three  Strategies For the Patriots To achieve Their Sixth Super Title

Playing Smart The past two wins against the Chargers and Chiefs the offensive line had zero penalties. Unlike week fourteen against Pittsburgh that rang up eighteen penalties, the protection has been excellent.
 The offensive line has to keep Brady in the pocket long enough, to see his receivers Blocking Ndamukong Suh and Aaron Donald will not be easy but attainable Being patient will be a significant factor in the game‘s outcome To many players on the field, for example, is one area the team needs to avoid.
Officiating; Like Patriot fans have witnessed so many times, the officials are usually a key player.  A recent example was a call against the Chiefs. Kansas City punted and return man Julian Edelman was charged with a fumble. Head coach Bill Belichick challenged the call, and the play was overturned.
  Another example was in Super Bowl 51 against Atlanta. In this game, Patriot receiver Julian Edelman made one of the greatest catches in history. After the catch, Atlanta challenged the call for lack of possession long enough. After reviewing the play, the Patriots won the appeal and won their fifth Super Bowl.

 Getting Everyone Involved; One of the main reasons for the Patriots success this year was Brady got every receiver involved. Except for Josh Gordon who was acquired in October, the team had a balanced attack. When Gordon was released after twelve games Brady’s favourite receiver was the one that was open.
 The Patriots should have a successful day against a team that ranked 7th defensively Both sides have had great success in running the ball this postseason. Together Tom Brady and Jared Goff have a combined three passing touchdowns.

  Final prediction; If all goes according to plan the Patriots should win by a close margin 31-27. Brady should be able to throw against AqibTalib, Marcus Peters and John Johnson. Linebacker Dante Fowler is one of the games best.

As the season progressed on the Patriots defense improved in stopping the run. Look for the Patriot linebackers Donta Hightower, Kyle Van Noy and Trey Flowers to blitz most of the game.  Rams quarterback Jared Goff is playing in his fourth postseason game versus the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

Three Reasons The Patriots Are A Model Organization

Now that the first round of the 2018 NFL Divisional round is history, Patriot fans have a week to think about the upcoming AFC Championship. Sunday, the Patriots will meet the Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas City. Earlier in the season, the Patriots squeaked by the Chiefs43-40 in Foxborough, Mass  Sunday’s 40-28 thrashing of the Chargers marked Bill Belichick’s 40th post _season game as a head coach. In this post, we will examine three reasons why The Patriots are a model organization.                                                                                                                 Three Reasons  The Patriots Are A Model Organization

Surrounded By Great Players    Since Bill Belichick took over as head coach in 2000 the organization has a 5-3 Super Bowl record and nine AFC Tile wins.                                                                                                                                                                                    One of the main reasons for the Patriots success has been Tom Brady. Brady drafted number 199 in the 2000 draft has been calling the signals. In nineteen years Brady and Belichick have transformed the Patriots into one of the most successful organizations in professional sports.     Outside of Brady, Belichick has drafted players such as Tedy Bruschi, Chandler Jones,  Logan Mankins, Rob Gronkowski Vince Wilfork and most recently, running back Sony Michel. Belichick has often been critcized for his trading down method so the organization can receive a greater value for his pick. Throughout his tenure as Patriots head coach the Patriots have qualified for the playoffs ten years in a row

Superior Coaching; Since Belichick took over the team to the playoffs 2000 the team has seen a mass exodus of coaches leave to coach elsewhere.  Notable names are Texans coach Bill O’Brien, Mike Vrabel of Tennessee Eric Mangini left to coach the New York Jets.  Last season defensive coordinator Matt Patricia agreed to coach Detroit Also, last season offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels agreed to coach Indianapolis. Just after agreeing to coach the Colts McDaniels declined the offer and stayed with New England. The most recent coach to move on was longtime defensive coordinator Brian Flores. Flores agreed to coach Miami.

The Value Factor; Anyone who follows Belichick is familiar with his strategy of getting value. Throughout the years Belichick has traded First_ Round picks for middle round picks.  The idea is to get the most out of a player for a reasonable price. Recent examples of this strategy are trading linebacker Chandler Jones was a First_ Round pick in 2012 who was dealt to the Browns for linebacker Kyle Van Noy. Van Noy has since been an integral part of the team’s defense.

The  Future; After last year’s Super Bowl loss, many fans thought the regime was coming to an end.   In 2018 Tom Brady threw for 4,355 yards  29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. As long as Tom Brady can stay healthy the dynasty will continue. This coming Sunday will feature a rookie quarterback in Patrick Mahomes versus one on the greatest of all time.

Why The Patriots Are Still The Team To Beat in The AFC In 2018

At the midway point of the 2018 NFL season, the New England Patriots are 6-2 in the AFC East, The only other competition the Patriots face are the 7=1 Kansas City Chiefs. Earlier in the season, the Patriots handed the Chiefs their first loss of the season. In this post, we will examine three reasons why the Patriots are still the team to beat in the AFC.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Why The Patriots Are Still The Team To Beat In The AFC For 2018

Well, Balanced Offense;  At 41 years old the Patriots still have one of the most explosive offennses in football. Forty _One years old  Tom Brady is still the best player in football. Also, in the mix is a healthy Julian Edelman and a new receiver in ex _Brown Josh Gordon.

Although the team lost veteran Danny Amendola to free agency, the Patriot’s are well _stocked at receiver.  In the offseason, the club added ex_ Raider Cordarrelle Patterson. After eight games Patterson has been a valuable acquisition splitting time between running back and receiver. Not to mention a ninety_ five_ yard touchdown return against Chicago.

  Other key offensive contributors have been Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski, receiver Chris Hogan and running back Sony Michel. Michel the team’s 2017 number one pick out of Georgia. After eight games Michel has run for 422 yards and two touchdowns.

  Defensive Issues;  The 2018 Patriot defense is not much different than their defense of a year ago. Free agent signees Adrian Clayborn, Danny Shelton and Jason McCourty have not been effective.

currently, the teams rank 25th among NFL teams in total yards. They have given up 27 passing touchdowns after eight games. On the positive side, the club ranks 14th against the run. If the Patriots have any aspirations of returning to the Super Bowl, the backfield must tighten up.

               A Healthy Brady; At 41 years old Tom Brady still remains one of the best players in NFL history. Brady ranks near the top in every category. Considering the offseason drama regarding the benching of Malcolm Butler the team continues to win with Brady calling the signals.

Looking Ahead;
 As it stands now the AFC championship is between the Patriots and KansCi tyChiefs. Although the team handed the Chiefs their first loss they are still the two best teams in the AFC..If the Patriots can stay healthy then return trip to the Super Bowl is possible. Look for a Patriots Los Angeles Rams meeting in the 2019 Super Bowl.                                      .

What We Have Learned From the Patriots After Week One Going Forward In 2018

Anybody who is a fan of the NFL understands you cannot tell how a team will fare after just one game. This past Sunday the Patriots enjoyed their first win of the season with a 27-20 win over the improved Houston Texans. In this post, we will cover three areas on why the Patriots are still a favourite to return to the Super Bowl going forward in 2018.

What We Have Learned from the Patriots After Week One Going Forward In 2018

Balanced Attack     Like any Patriots team under Bill Belichick we witnessed a well_ balanced attack in Sunday’s win. Offensively Tom Brady passed for 277 yards On the ground the team rushed for 122 yards for a grand total of 389 yards combined for the day.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Contributing in the effort were Rex Burkhead, James White, and James Devlin In the receiving department, Rob Gronkowski had  7 catches for 168 yards.  Also in the mix was wideout Phillip Dorsett 7 catches for 61 yards. Dorsett had his best day as a Patriot.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Improved Defense  During the course of the game the Patriots put enormous pressure on quarterback Deshaun Watson. Defensively the team had three sacks. Led by Lawrence Guy, Adam Butler and newcomer Danny Shelton.                                                                                                                                                                                      In the defensive backfield area cornerback, Stephon Gilmore was credited with one interception and free agent cornerback JC Jackson had an impressive professional debut by not getting beat on any of Deshaun Watson’s throwing attempts to his side.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Superior Coaching   Despite the offseason loss of defensive coordinator Matt Patricia to Detroit the clubs coaching is still the best in the business. New Defensive  Coordinator Brian Flores had the defense well prepared in Sunday’s win. Offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia has a challenge ahead of him due to the loss of Nate Solder. Newly acquired Trent Brown from San Francisco has made an impression. With the loss of number one pick, Isaiah Wynn  the Patriots will meet the challenge

Remaining Games Ahead in 2018    As far as the rest of the games for 2018 the Patriots have their work cut out for the Outside of their division The club faces Chicago, Green Bay, Minnesota, Tennessee, Pittsburgh and Kansas City.  Not to mention a week two rematch with Jacksonville. If the Patriots hope to reach the Super Bowl, then Tom Brady needs dependable protection all season. Also, the team needs Rob Gronkowski healthy for all sixteen games and the playoffs

Why The Patriots Defense Is Super Bowl Material

Now that Super Bowl 52 is in the record books it’s time to open another chapter for the New England Patriots. The Patriots are coming off a stunning loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles. Of course, the story of the game was backup quarterback Nick Foles. Foles took over late in the season after an injury to starter Carson Wentz. Foles put the critics behind him and led the underrated Eagles to a 41-33 victory. Not to mention throwing for 373 yards and compiling a 97.5 % passing rating. But through everything Patriots, fans have reason to be optimistic for the upcoming 2018 season. In this post, we will review three areas why the Patriots defense is Super Bowl material.                                                                                                                                                                                Why The Patriots Defense Is Super Bowl Material

Improved Front Seven                                                                                                                        Anyone who is a fan of Bill Belichick knows how much he thrives on depth and versatility. Despite not playing Malcolm Butler in The Super Bowl he retooled the defense in the offseason.                                                                                                             Previous Patriot defenses have a reputation for their strong front seven. The first order of business was to improve the pass rush which was non_ existent in the Super Bowl.  Free agent defensive end Adrian Clayborn was signed from Atlanta. Clayborn Clayborn a seven_ year veteran has started 81 career games. The former 1st round draft pick by Tampa will provide depth and pass rushing skills                                                                                                                                              In addition to  Clayborn the team signed defensive tackle Danny Shelton from Cleveland. Shelton a three_ year veteran has played in 46 career games totaling 71 career tackles. If Clayborn and Shelton can stay healthy, then they should be a vast improvement in stopping the oppositions running game.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Improved Pass Coverage                                                                                                                       In 2017 the club gave up a total of 4400 yards passing. In the Super Bowl, Foles had a career day throwing for 373 yards To shore up the defensive backfield Belichick drafted cornerback Duke Dawson out of Florida. Dawson who has a reputation of being an exceptional cover man and should provide depth when the team goes to dime coverage.                                                                           Also joining the backfield is former Brown Jason McCourty. McCourty, the younger brother of safety Devin, brings eight years experience to the organization. Overall, McCourty has played in 122 career games with 16 interceptions and one touchdown.                                                                                                  With the addition of his brother Devin and Stephon Gilmore, the backfield should be much more dangerous in pass coverage.

Fresh Outlook                                                                                                                                              With a new defensive coordinator in Brian Flores, the Patriots have reasons to be optimistic this year. Even though the team lost one of the best defensive minds in the game in Matt Patricia, the Patriots defense should be better with the acquisitions of Shelton and Clayborn on the line. Also, keep in mind 2016 3rd round pick Derek Rivers. Rivers was one of the teams four picks in the deflate_ gate scandal. Rivers who is a pass rushing specialist out of Youngstown State. Rivers suffered a season_ ending knee injury during pre_ season last summer. If he can recuperate from surgery, look for him to compete for a starting position as an edge rusher.,

In The End The Patriots Defense Not so super

With Super Bowl 52 officially it’s time to look ahead and see what may lie ahead for the New England Patriots already patriot defensive coordinator Matt Patricia has accepted a job as head coach of the Detroit Lions. In this article, we’ll examine three areas that the Patriots need to improve upon to achieve Super Bowl victory number six.                           ;

In The End The Patriots Defence Not So super

Free Agency;

    .

 On offense running backs Rex Burkhead and Mike Gillislee saw limited participation. This left the bulk of the running to veterans Dion Lewis and, James White. Receiver Brandin Cooks had an OK season but did not earn Brady’s trust in key situations.  One issue the Patriots face is the free agent status of Dion Lewis.  Lewis was the Patriots best back in 2017.  Lewis will take a lot of cash and a long_ term commitment to retain.                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Defensively
     From start to finish this was the weakest area of the Patriots this season.  After an opening 41-27 loss to the Chiefs, the  Patriot defense was horrendous. The front seven allowed 164 yards on the ground, which is totally unacceptable.  At one point in the season the, Patriots defense was ranked 29th overall in the NFL.  Compared too previous Patriot defences look for Belichick needs to overhaul the defence.
   Even though kicker Stephen Gostowski had a decent season he still botched a  field goal and point after kick which in the end didn’t matter the Patriots may consider drafting a kicker or punter in the draft.
                                                                                                                                                                            for the Patriots to have a very busy off-season Key free agents up for a new contract are Matthew Slater Nate Solder and Dion Lewis as the more notable players.  Most important is the Patriots need to revamp their pass rush. Hopefully, linebacker Donta Hightower can return to his old form and help the defence get back to being one of the best in the NFL.                                                                                                                                                                                                                            .                                                                                         ,

The NFL Dtaft 2018 Analyzing the Patriots Needs

Now that the Patriots have moved on after suffering a 41-33 loss to the Eagles it’s time to restructure through the draft. Currently, the Patriots have six picks whether Bill Belichick keeps his first_ round pick remains to be seen. In this post, we’ll analyze the Patriots needs.

  The Nfl Draft 2018 Analyzing the Patriots Needs

  Pass Rush,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             For those of us who witnessed the Eagles run wild against the defense .it’s safe to say the team lacks an effective pass rusher. Eagle running back LeGarrette Blount averaged 3.1 yards per carry   This is truly an embarrassing statistic whether it’s the Super Bowl or a regular season game.Some quality defensive tackles that may be available at 31 are Michigan’s, Maurice Hurst. Hurst had  56 tackles last year 12 which went for a loss An interesting prospect is RJ McIntosh of Miami Fla also could be available.He had 56 tackles to his credit 12 which were for a loss.  Mc Intosh was one of the best players in the country last year. Another name to keep an eye on is USC’s Rasheem Green. Green had 46 tackles last year and had an impressive 10 sacks.                                                                                                                                                    Pass Coverage;                                                                                                                                                                            Not only did the Eagles run all over the Patriots Foles had one of his best days as a pro by throwing for 300 yards. Even though cornerback Malcolm Butler was benched by Belichick moments before the game New England’s secondary was lost.  This year’s secondary class is deep with quality cornerbacks and safety’s.  Two names to keep an eye on are Pittsburgh’s Jordan Whitehead and Stanford’ s Justin Reid. Reid was one of the best safety’s in the country last year has he had 99 tackles and six interceptions.  Whitehead is one of the most physical defenders in the country who can also play receiver. Ronnie Harrison of Alabama could be a mid _round pick. Harrison had 70 tackles last year plus 2 sacks.
Offensive Line;

The Patriots suffered a huge loss in free agency with the loss of tackle Nate Solder signing with the Giants. With two second round picks look for the team to draft a tackle and a blocking tight end.  Brian Oniel of Pittsburgh is one of the best linemen in the draft who can also play tight end. Wisconsin’s Troy Fumagalli is one of the best blocking tight ends who could be available.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         As we have seen many times in the Belichick era, he has a history of trading his first pick for mid _round picks. This year may be no exception since the Patriots traded Jimmy Garoppolo in October.

Hopefully Harrison And Britt Will Learn The Patriot Way

Now that the 2017 NFL season has come to a close Patriot head coach Bill Belichick continues to mastermind his roster. The two latest additions to the Patriots are ex_ Browns receiver Kenny Britt, and three__ time Super Bowler James Harrison.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Gritty Veterans                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  The additions of Britt and Harrison should be a big plus in the playoffs. This year’s defense has been questionable, compared to previous Patriots defenses. Harrison brings 788 career tackles along with 500 career sacks. Britt,on the other hand is a depth move that will give Brady an extra target in the playoffs.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Injury wise, the Patriots have had their share. Especially since Julian Edelman had a season_ ending knee injury. If the Patriots are going to outscore their opponents they need a healthy group of receivers for Brady to throw to.                                                                                                                                                                                            Number One Offense                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Overall the Patriots rank number one in the NFL on offense. They continue to put up more points than their opponents. Opposing teams never know what Brady or his offense is going to throw at them. The off_ season acquisition of Brandon Cooks has proven to be a steal. Brady has two legitimate deep men in Brandon Cooks and Chris Hogan. Britt a nine_ year veteran from Rutgers should provide extra insurance for Brady. Tight end Rob Gronkowski, has made another Pro Bowl by making sensational catches all year.                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Young Defense                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   With the Patriots achieving home field advantage for the 2017 playoffs it was not an easy task. The first three weeks of the season the Patriots were ranked near the Bottom of the NFL. As the season progressed cornerback  Stephan Gilmore and Malcolm Butler to their capabilities.                                                                                                                                                                                                                           The front seven of Malcolm Brown, Lawrence Guy, Adam Butler got better week after week. Veteran Alan Branch was benched but has played well lately. The defensive backfield of Devon McCourty, Duron Harmon, Jordan Richards, and Patrick Chung have tightened up. If the Patriots want to get to Super Bowl number52 the backfield cannot give up big plays nor draw top many holding penalties.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                With three games left the Patriots have to play each snap like it’s their last play of the year. Talent wise the Patriots have enough but need the defense to play with fire in their belly. Offensively the Pats have a   balanced attack. The additions of Britt and Harrison can only help.

Why Tom Brady Will Not Play Until He’s Forty Five

Any good quarterback who plays football college or pro wishes for two things one a successful team and two good protection. So far after seven games, Brady has thrown for over two thousand yards and thrown fifteen touchdown passes.  Forty_ five may not happen                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Overall not a bad season considering he’s been sacked for a total of eighteen times. Last season, for example, Brady was sacked fifteen times in twelve games. If you think about deflate_ gate was the best thing to happen to him. He had four games to rest his shoulder which enabled him to stay healthy and advance to the super bowl.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            This season,_ however, Brady’s protection has been horrible at best. Offensive tackle Nate Solder a ten- year member of the team has been called for having several penalties which put added pressure on Brady.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               The Patriots are already thin on offense with a season_ ending to slot receiver Julian Edelman. Edelman was Brady’s most trusted receiver before he got hurt.  Brady is known for his quick release, but with so many penalties Brady may be in for a long season.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          On the defensive side, the Patriots have been improving each week. On a sad note the Patriots did learn that defensive captain Donta Hightower is out for the season . This certainly doesn’t help New England who had difficulty stopping the run even when Hightower was healthy.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Injuries are part of the game, but with bad protection and Hightowers injury Brady’s health could be in danger. As the season approaches the halfway point look for New England to be active at the trade deadline.                                                                                                                                                        With eight games left and three out of the four games on the road the Patriots need to focus on two things one good protection and two stopping the run. Middle linebackers Kyle Van Noy and David Harris have been playing better.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        If the Patriots want to go deep in the playoffs then they will have to play sixty minutes of smart football. The 4-3 Bills have been the surprise of the division. If Brady continues to play under heavy pressure then his plans to play until he’s forty five may be in jeopardy.
